Building Commercial Capacity in Africa

Building Commercial Capacity in Africa

MDT International provides financial, commercial and management training courses for the oil & gas industry.

Since 1992, MDT International has delivered thousands of training courses in 73 countries to over 200 oil-related companies, designed to help oil and gas industry personnel to enhance their skills - and their performance in the workplace. East Africa is an international hotspot for the oil and gas industry – with vast hydrocarbon reserves already discovered. Yet, it is one of the poorest regions in the world. Retrieving oil requires trained people and it makes financial sense to depend less on expatriate workforce by training local people and providing them with new skills.

Building Commercial Capacity in Africa

Managing Director, Drew Leitch said “Mineral wealth, in any country, is vested with the people who live there.  Hydrocarbons - whether discovered in Brazil, Tanzania or Malaysia - don’t belong to the international oil and gas companies, the government or the ministry.  They belong to the people of the country who should be able to benefit from and capitalise on these resources.”

Already here

MDT International is passionate about playing a part in building the national capacity of oil and gas industry professionals working in East Africa.

Since 2010, MDT International has successfully delivered a range of its oil & gas training courses in Uganda, Tanzania and most recently in Kenya. Companies / organisations supporting those courses have included Tullow, BG, Ophir, Dodsal, Total, CNOOC, Ugandan Ministry of Finance Planning & Economic Development and the Uganda Revenue Authority – to name but a few.

Petroleum Project Economics & Risk Management participant Andrew Isaac Ssonko from Uganda reported “I recommend this course for any professional in the petroleum industry.  I have gained excellent and critical analytical skills in petroleum economics and the course added tremendous value to me.”

Looking ahead

In Tanzania MDT’s General Manager Doug Reid has also benefited from meetings with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and the national oil company TPDC, in conjunction with a well-attended press conference with national TV coverage. Consequently, MDT International is thrilled to announce its return to Dar es Salaam in November 2015, bringing more courses and as Managing Director Drew Leitch said “At MDT International, knowledge share is what we do.  This is incredibly rewarding, particularly in an environment where people are hungry to learn.”
