Getenergy was established in 2004, and is an independent, privately-held organisation that brings together providers of education and training (universities, colleges and private providers) with national and international upstream oil and gas companies, governments and service providers.

The global oil and gas industry is changing, with the exponential growth of unconventional oil and gas production, more drilling within the arctic and challenging environments and the advancement of methods such as Enhanced Oil Recovery. There are also more countries producing oil and gas than ever before. These changes in industry require a competent local technical workforce.

VTEC is the only event to seek to overcome challenges of vocational education and technical training  for the oil and gas industry globally. VTEC Global 2014 builds on the success of the inaugural event held at SAIT Polytechnic in Calgary, March 2013. This is a totally unique event for everyone in the Oil & Gas Industry. The three day event takes place every year in London and is the only opportunity where oil & gas companies can meet up, network and build partnerships with training providers from around the world. From its launch in Houston a decade ago, Getenergy has brought more than 3,000 universities, training providers and oil and gas industry executives together from over 60 countries.
