There are 850,000 people living with dementia in the UK today, with this number expected to rise to over one million by 2025*. As an increasing issue, it is more important than ever that health and social care workers are equipped with the skills to understand and support people with dementia.

You will develop an in-depth understanding of dementia and its effects. You will explore the various types of dementia and the importance of early diagnosis, as well as focusing on person-centred approaches to dementia care, the role of communication, interaction and inclusion in dementia care and support.

This qualification will equip you with the knowledge needed to work in a variety of roles within the health and social care services, and is ideal if you want to enter, or progress within this sector.

Suitability - Who should attend?

To qualify for a FREE Level 1, 2 or 3 online learning course, you must:

  • You must be aged 19 years or over as at 1/9/21
  • You must have lived in the UK for the last three years, or be able to prove your residency status, for example, indefinite leave to remain, settled status or you are an Asylum seeker who has been in the UK for more than 6 months.

This course is split into seven manageable units, covering topics such as:

  • Understanding dementia
  • Understand how person-centred approaches are used to underpin the care and support of individuals with dementia
  • The Principles of communication and interaction in dementia care and support
  • Supporting positive interaction, occupation and activity in dementia care
  • The Principles of equality, diversity and inclusion in dementia care and support
  • Understand how to support individuals with dementia to exercise choice and rights
  • Principles of the administration of medication and well-being of individuals with dementia
