Course description

With the passing of the Domestic Abuse Act 2020, there has never been a better time to be up-to-date with the law and procedure in relation to domestic abuse. Prosecuting or defending in such cases always presents a unique challenge - will the witnesses turn up, what will they say, what if they don’t say what we expect them to? And do we need any witnesses at all?

In addition to the evidential issues, this live and interactive session will also look at ancillary issues such as the new definition of ‘domestic abuse’, witness summonses, sentencing guidelines, restraining orders on acquittal and the new domestic abuse protection notices and orders. It is presented by Clive Smith, a former barrister with vast experience in providing training for both prosecutors and defence practitioners.
