The NEBOSH Construction Certificate programme broadly mirrors that of the National General Certificate. However, the specific nature of the award allows for coverage of key construction issues in rather more technical detail than would be appropriate for a general health and safety award.
The Construction Certificate therefore contains additional units and requires a slightly longer programme of study than its more generalised counterpart. It is designed to cover general health and safety issues within a construction context, as well as placing emphasis on the specific construction issues that make the industry amongst the most dangerous in which to work.
The examination comprises two 2-hour written papers (Papers NGC1 and NCC1) and a practical assessment. Each written paper consists of one 'long-answer' question and ten 'short-answer' questions and the practical assessment consists of carrying out a health and safety inspection of a construction site, or part of a site, and preparing a management report. All questions are compulsory. The written papers and the practical assessment must be taken at the same centre.
To help maintain flexibility, SHEilds allow students to sit the examinations at their local NEBOSH accredited test centre or a local British Council where available however an additional sitting fee may be applicable.
