Course description
This is a 20-hour course designed for learners who have learned around 2,000 words and are able to use functional words and sentence connectors in their speech to produce cohesive discourse to discuss some interesting topics in daily life.
This course aims at increasing students’ language competence so that they can conduct a simple survey of a project, discuss its pros and cons, with reasons, examine its feasibility and make suggestions. Conducting survey, discussions and debates are encouraged in class. The learning of semi-technical words in IT, medicine, popular culture, art and music provides opportunities for students to discuss issues and give opinions about topics that are important in today’s China.
By the end of the course, students should be able to discuss such topics as modern technology, children’s addiction to computer games, pets and animals, colours and culture, and reality TV shows.
