"I'm more than happy I chose BSC"

Ian Cunningham's experience of the Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health

Health & Safety Manager Ian Cunningham had just obtained his NEBOSH General Certificate and wanted to move on to the next level. From among the many Health & Safety training providers out there, he chose the British Safety Council to undertake the challenging Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Safety & Health.... and he couldn't be happier.

"There are lots of good reputable training providers but I am more than happy that I chose the British Safety Council for my studies."

Why did you choose the course?

After obtaining my NEBOSH National General Certificate (NGC) and having put my new found skills to practice, I decided I wanted to go to the next level. That was the Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health. I completed my NGC through another provider and whilst there was nothing wrong with the course, I didn’t feel confident to secure their services again, so I looked at the British Safety Council Level 6 Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health. I found all the information I needed on the British Safety Council website and after a chat with an account manager to clarify a few things, I took the plunge and registered.

Benefits of studying with the British Safety Council

  • The tutors were experienced safety practitioners who made it easy to learn and didn’t consider me as just another pupil.
  • The delegates themselves came from a wide range of industries and had a sense of humour which made the whole environment relaxed and enjoyable
  • The learning material was well formatted and easy to absorb and the size of the training sections was just right so you didn’t go home at the end of the day puzzled.
  • Tutors actively encourage group discussion to answer questions. You may think your issue is complicated but after discussion with other delegates, you discover, it has happened to others and they can give you advice on how to address it.

I have always had a fear of exams. This was not the case here, the tutors explained how the marking process worked, what the examiners were looking for and with the aid of some past papers, helped us to structure the answer to gain the maximum marks.

I cannot praise the British Safety Council enough for the moral support when work difficulties did arise that caused my studies to slip. A quick phone call to my account manager and I was soon back on track.

Overview

Studying for any professional qualification is difficult, especially when you have to hold down a day job as well.
It is even harder when you work shifts. The British Safety Council allows you to balance both in ways that suit you and enable you to meet the requirements of the course.

The content of the training material, the tutors and the help provided from your account manager makes the learning
process easy.

There is home study involved but the British Safety Council even provides advice on how to manage that. I used it...it works!

As part of the training package you can join a discussion forum, which I used to post advice for others. When I got my final result, the grin lasted days!
