How do I find a good Microsoft Office course? Seems to be loads out there, no idea how one can possibly choose between them...

Hi Jen,

this is a good question, albeit a difficult one!

First things first: there's no denying that there are loads of Excel course providers out there to choose from. A lot of them will be great, some will be mediocre, but the truth is that there is no one-size-fits all - it all depends on what you're trying to achieve and the kind of learner you are.

So I think the most important consideration to begin with is what you want to get out of your course. I know that it may seem like a given, but a lot of people don't spend enough time thinking about this, which is why they sometimes end up enrolling in courses that aren't really right for them.
You need to think about your current skill-set, the specific topics that you need to improve on and the what you ultimately want to use your new skills to do. It takes time, but you need to read course descriptions thoroughly and approach the companies that seem interesting to see whether they are a "match" in this sense.

Secondly, think about what teaching methods you respond to. Do you want a really hands-on course, or are you more interested in being led by a tutor? Would you prefer to study online so that you can go over topics again and again, and only focus on what interests you most? This will be an extremely important factor in terms of what you get out of the course and how much you enjoy it.

Finally, although everyone is different it is always a good idea to look for reviews. What do other people think about the companies you are considering? Don't just look at the overall rating but at what they actually say. This can give you a good idea of how a course is run in practice and whether it is likely to work for you.

In the end being spoiled for choice is still better than having no options to choose from!

Hope this helps!

Best,
