My company is opening up a position for someone to be in charge of social media in 6 months. What kind of technological or other skills would I need to be competitive?

You should be a good content creator and blogger, and know how to use a CMS and some basic HTML to get that content up. SEO and analytics as well as some experience with a mobile platform is also demanded. You should also be more than a hobbyist at facebook, twitter, instagram etc., and know about the different way you can market your content and build your brand on these platforms.
