APM - Project Management Certification
APM refers to the UK Association for Project Management, meaning that APM courses are accredited by the AMP BOK (body of knowledge).
They offer a comprehensive and fundamental understanding to project management and are particularly important if you work in construction, transport, defence or nuclear power.
The AMP body of knowledge is split into seven sections, and contains a total of 52 topics. It offers a structured approach to your career progression, with courses ranging from a beginners/introductory level all the way up to professional levels of understanding and the achievement of ChPP status (Chartered Project Professional).
What's the difference between AMP, PMP and PRINCE 2?
Fundamentally, AMP (based on the Association of Project Management's body of knowledge) and PMP (based on the Project Management Institute's body of knowledge) are a comprehensive guide to the competencies that project manager, or a prospective project manager, can set out to learn. PRINCE 2 is a set of methodologies, processes, templates and guides relating to the role and responsibilities of a project manager.
The PMI have two levels of project management qualification, one of which is the PMP. The PMP certification is aimed at experienced project managers with 3-5 years of experience.
The AMP body of knowledge is aimed at all levels of project manager, beginning with introductory courses and advancing to ChPP status. It is especially useful if you currently work, or have worked, in industries that use APM certification.
PRINCE2 is the standard project management method used by big business and government. It defines the processes and templates required to manage a project from inception to completion with 8 process steps. If you are new to project management, PRINCE2 gives you a clear blueprint to follow.
Which APM course is right for me?
The APM project management course you should take will depend on your current experience level. The courses are offered at a range of levels, so depending on whether you already hold an AMP certification or whether this is your first, you can select the right level for your knowledge set.
Can I study for an APM certification online?
Most APM courses require you to be in a classroom, however some courses also offer the option to study from anywhere, providing a live, online classroom experience instead.
