CCTV training courses - what is CCTV?

From banks to retail stores, nightclubs, airports and sports stadiums, security systems based on video surveillance and CCTV are an essential part of ensuring a safe and secure environment.

CCTV generally involves the installation of video cameras to capture footage and feed these signals to a number of monitors in a specific, confined area, most often operated by a security team. Unlike broadcast television, the images recorded on CCTV are not generally transmitted on an open frequency as the signals are usually transported from the cameras to monitors via mesh wireless links or P2P connections.

CCTV training courses can vary in complexity depending on the system and environment it is being utilised in. In most cases however, video surveillance is used to maintain the safety and security of people by monitoring the environment they are in. CCTV can also be used for purposes such as animal control and industrial processes.

Principles of CCTV training courses

Most of the CCTV training courses are designed for participants looking to pursue a career in the areas of security and management. These professional programmes have been designed by experts with experience in the fields of maintenance and closed circuit television, ensuring that every aspect of this globally used commodity is covered throughout the CCTV training course.

CCTV training courses vary in length, however most are usually delivered in as short a duration as possible, enabling participants to discover the essentials of this profession and become able to apply these principles when they return to work. Transferred into a real working environment, CCTV-relevant knowledge can contribute greatly to developing an organisation's security policy.

Significant investments in CCTV technology and CCTV training courses in this field are on the increase, especially in countries like the UK, the US, Japan, Germany and China, which utilise more video surveillance than anywhere else in the world. Now is a better time that ever to capitalise on this demand and become familiar with the uses and benefits of CCTV.

CCTV training course content

Most CCTV courses simply teach participants the fundamental methods of operating the software and hardware appropriate to different types of CCTV equipment. There are a number of CCTV training courses available which will also instruct participants on the installation processes theoretical aspects.

Throughout these CCTV training courses, participants will learn how to configure varifocal, fixed and aspherical lenses, operate the zoom functions and programme recording devices, both digital and analogue.

Other specialisation modules will focus on wireless distribution amplifiers and how to properly install them as well as the use of coaxial cables. Setting up dome cameras, day and night time surveillance and monochrome CCTV will be key elements of these courses, and participants will understand the importance of using test equipment properly upon completion.

Who are CCTV training courses suited to?

Enrolling on a CCTV training course typically requires an active professional interest in CCTV technology and a background in security technologies. However, many of the short professional courses have no formal training requirements. CCTV training courses are specifically appropriate for operators, engineers and sales consultants from any industry, or even those who are pursuing a career in law enforcement.
