What types of English courses can I take in London?

A variety of English classes are available in London, from more general courses to very specific courses like Legal English and Business English. More specific classes may suit your needs if you already have a solid foundation of English but want to expand your vocabulary in a certain field. A more general English course is ideal for those who are in the beginning or intermediate stages of learning the language. Other courses may focus on a very specific type of writing, such as reports, presentations, or proposals in English. These are ideal for people for whom becoming fluent in English isn’t necessary, but producing a perfect English product is crucial, such as a scientific report.

Some courses may also prepare you to take English language tests like the IELTS that are required to be admitted into certain academic programmes that are conducted in English.

Courses vary in type and speed. You’ll be able to find courses that are one week long to much longer. What type of course you take will depend entirely on your goals and the scope of your interest. Learning how to spruce up a business proposal in English is obviously more limited in scope than learning English from scratch with the intention of becoming fluent! There is likely a course out there that will fit with your schedule, as well. Some courses are intensive one or two-day classes, others are spread out over weeks to accommodate a full-time work schedule.

English courses in London will typically focus on vocabulary, sentence structure, pronunciation (if the class includes speaking), paragraph and essay structure, grammar and punctuation. Other courses, especially those focused on a highly specialized form of English like Business English, will focus more on things like interpreting and understanding the language and how to use it to better influence and interact with colleagues and clients.

Why should I take an English course in London?

As a hub for English language and literature, there’s few better places in the world to get your start (or just get more practice) in speaking English! International business and scientific research tend to be conducted in English, so taking an English course could be a great investment to your career.

English courses are designed to give you more confidence speaking, writing, and interacting in English. If you need to speak English for your career or your personal life, enrolling in an English course is a fantastic way to get the skills you need quickly. While self-learning and consuming media in English is a great way to introduce yourself to (or brush up on) the language, taking a course with a designed curriculum can often be a good way to help you achieve your goals more quickly and efficiently.
