Course description

Did you know 47% of the UK's population has a pet, meaning there are over 24 million pets in the UK? With a qualification in animal management, you will be spoilt for choice when considering your next steps!

New for 2019, our animal management programme offers exciting and rewarding opportunities to work directly with animals, based at our brand new animal management centre in Banbury.

Studying and learning in a hands-on environment, you will have the opportunity to work directly with fish, insects, small animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs and ferrets, and reptiles such as snakes and small lizards. Our state-of-the-art animal management centre will help you develop skills and knowledge in a realistic and professional environment.

This course is designed for school leavers and is an ideal qualification for those intending to progress directly to employment in animal care, or to an animal care apprenticeship.

Suitability - Who should attend?

You must be the holder of at least 4 GCSEs at grade 3 (grade D–E) or above, including Maths, English and a Science subject, or a Level 1 qualification at Merit or above. You will need to be comfortable working with a range of animals.

During your studies you must wear sturdy footwear, a college sweatshirt and poloshirt.

Training Course Content

You will gain work-related experience in land-based industries and receive a formal introduction to the principles and practices of animal behaviour and handling.

You will learn about:

  • animal welfare and health
  • principles of behaviour
  • feeding and care
  • basic animal biology

Course delivery details

At the end of this course, you will gain an Animal Care BTEC Level 2 Technical Diploma.

With this qualification you could progress to Animal Management Level 3 National Foundation Diploma, an Apprenticeship or employment in the industry.
