Do you want to start your own beauty business or work in an exclusive salon or spa?
Beauty therapists are specialists in discussing and understanding client requirements, analysing, and advising on skincare and beauty regimes, giving treatments, and applying cosmetics. Every year, we successfully train many students in becoming fully-qualified beauty therapists.

On this Level 3 course you will be supported by expert beauty tutors in gaining professional, hands-on training experience with real clients. You will also develop confidence and customer service skills within an industry-standard salon.
We will help you develop the skills you need to work in the beauty therapy industry, including:
- Client care and communication skills
- Working as part of a team
- Maintaining health and safety and carrying out risk assessments
- Promoting products
- Maintaining professional standards
- Time management
Upon successful completion, you will be in a position to start work or progress to further studies.

Suitability - Who should attend?
To enrol on our Beauty Therapy Level 3 you will need:
Beauty Therapy Level 2 Certificate or Diploma, from either Activate Learning or another college
AND
Five or more GCSEs grades 4–9 (A*–C), including English and maths

You should have good references, be creatively ambitious and be willing to accept new challenges.
Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an internal assessment. All students will have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme.
It is essential to purchase personal equipment and salon work wear costing approximately £150. You may be able to access a course costs bursary for a contribution towards your costs.
Training Course Content
You will develop the following skills:
- Working with colleagues within the beauty-related industries
- Monitor and maintain health and safety practice in the salon
- Client care and communication in beauty-related industries
- Promote and sell products and services to clients
- Provide body massage
- Provide massage using pre-blended aromatherapy oils
- Provide facial and body electrotherapy treatments
- Apply microdermabrasion
From your work placement you may learn about supervising, salon management and also salon finance and business management.
You will learn from experienced staff in our modern salons using the latest equipment. You will observe demonstrations and learn through student participation to develop practical skills and competency. You will develop your knowledge through e-learning systems and by traditional teaching methods.
Course delivery details

There is a requirement for you to work a minimum of one day per week in a relevant work placement.
You will be assessed continually throughout the year.
This will include:
- online exams
- practical assessments
- written assignments
- case studies
- a portfolio of evidence and work
A minimum of 85% attendance is required by the Examining Board and the college for successful completion of the qualification.
