Course description
Do you want to start your own massage business or work in exclusive salons? Every year, we successfully train many students in becoming fully-qualified beauty therapists. By choosing a career in this industry, you will have the opportunity to combine creativity with customer care; helping people to look and feel great. Beauticians are specialists in discussing and understanding client requirements, analysing and advising on skincare and beauty regimes, giving treatments, and applying cosmetics.
On this Level 3 course you will be supported by expert beauty tutors in gaining professional, hands-on training experience with real clients. You will also develop confidence and customer service skills within an industry-standard salon.

Suitability - Who should attend?
To enrol on our Beauty Therapy Level 3 you will need:
Beauty Therapy Level 2 Certificate or Diploma, from either Activate Learning or another college
AND
Five or more GCSEs grades 4–9 (A*–C), including English and maths

You should have good references, be creatively ambitious and be willing to accept new challenges.
It is essential to purchase personal equipment and salon work wear costing £300-£400. You may be able to access a course costs bursary for a contribution towards your costs.
Applicants will be invited to attend an interview and complete an internal assessment.
All students will have their literacy and numeracy needs supported within the programme.
Training Course Content
You will develop your skills in massage techniques including:
- Swedish massage
- Indian head massage
- learn new techniques in facial and body electics
- non-surgical face-lifts
- microdermabrasion
- electrolysis
In addition you will be taught electrical facial and body treatments such as, Vacuum suction, non surgical face lift, high frequency as well as Indian head massage.
Throughout this full-time course you will run commercial salons at the college to maintain your Level 2 skills. From your work placement you will learn abut supervising in salon management and also about salon finance and business management.
You will learn from experienced staff in our modern salons using the latest equipment. You will observe demonstrations and learn through student participation to develop practical skills and competency. You will develop your knowledge through e-learning systems and by traditional teaching methods.
Upon successful completion, you will be in a position to start work or progress to further studies.
Course delivery details
You'll learn through:

- practical activities in our industry-standard facilities
About three-quarters of your time is spent on practical salon activities and the remaining quarter is spent in the classroom. One day a week is a study day.
Our salon facilities are open to the public and are run like a professional salon so you'll have the opportunity to practice your skills on customers and gain work experience in the industry.
In addition, you will have 10 days work placement, which is spread over 10 weeks. Staff will help you to find a placement and this experience will help prepare you for work.
You will be assessed continually throughout the year.
This will include:
- oral and written exams
- practical assessments
- written assignments
- case studies
- a portfolio of evidence and work.
A minimum of 85% attendance is required by the Examining Board and the college for successful completion of the qualification.
