Course description

The course, which includes poetry, prose, drama and creative writing, is designed to build upon skills already acquired and gives the opportunity to develop individual critical awareness. Assessment is by essays, coursework and examination of the set texts. There are plenty of opportunities to attend courses and lectures throughout the year. In addition, there is a visit to the battlefields of France and Belgium as preparation for a study of ‘Literature of the Great War' and the second year topic is ‘Love Through The Ages'. This demanding but enjoyable course is very popular and students have achieved excellent results. English Literature provides the basis for numerous degree courses later on.

All 16-19 year olds on full-time programmes will be required to retake GCSE English and Maths or to undertake Functional Skills, if they have not already attained the equivalent of a GCSE grade C in these subjects, every year of their course, until they complete their studies.

English Literature is for anyone who enjoys reading and lively debate.

A challenging course exploring the English Literature through the ages and a range of enrichment activities.
