Course description

About the course

Explore how to frame clothing memorabilia such as sports jerseys. It  is similar to 3D box framing, but more specialized. You will leave the course with a framed sports jersey that would cost in the region of £185 - £220 to frame if completed by a high street framer.

What will the course cover?

The content for this day is similar to the process  outlined in 3D Framing however there is no need to build a box frame. Instead, we cover some techniques specific to framing sports jerseys and clothing.

Through clear explanation, demonstration and hands-on practice, you will learn the principles of:

  • How objects and collectable can be displayed.
  • How to create depth in a frame.
  • How to support clothing in a frame.
  • Methods of attaching onto a backboard.

You will also be using a range of previously acquired framing skills when:

  • Building a deep rebate frame.
  • Creating a spacer frame.
  • Designing and making a support insert.
  • Sewing in the supported item.
  • Assembling the whole, framed object.
  • Using appropriate fixings for hanging this type of frame.

Suitability - Who should attend?

What previous experience should I have?

It is essential to have some picture framing knowledge, have at least completed our BASICS OF FRAMING course and be confident making 2D frames with mounts. This is a packed day and we will be working on a larger scale than usual.

Trainers will assume that you are:

  • Familiar with specialist tool used in basic framing.
  • Able to cut mitres in moulding and know how to form and fix a frame.
  • Know how to plan, mark out and cut mounts.

Outcome / Qualification etc.

  • Certificate of Attendance
  • A completed framed picture for you to take home

How our Courses are run:

Courses are run with a maximum of 10 students. Starting at 10am and finishing at 5pm, there will be a 30 minute lunch break and a few short refreshment breaks.

This course is hosted by UK school of framing alumni at our professional workshop in High Wycombe, sadly this is a little bit out of town so we advise bringing a packed lunch or you may miss out on the great opportunity to get to know your fellow students over lunch!

Equipment for the day is provided, well maintained and shared amongst the students, you are encouraged to support and share any tips they have with each other,

Our courses are intended to be enjoyable, educational and collaborative learning experiences, there’s no stress from tests or assessments at the end of the day, we hope you leave with the satisfaction of building and learning something new.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring a packed lunch

The venue is located outside of the town centre and access to food vendors is limited. To keep the course running on time for all students, we request that students bring a packed lunch with them. We will provide all teas & coffees.

Something to Frame:

For this special session, you should bring along a sports jersey or similar item of clothing to frame. Please note that we will be folding between 25% & 40% of the shirt under the mount, so signatures below that fold point may be lost from view (height from collar to fold 460 mm).

Suitable clothing for a workshop environment:

  • No open toe shoes or sandals
  • No long floaty sleeves or garments which could get caught on things
  • Do not wear anything of value as we are working with glues and paints etc.
  • Do wear comfortable footwear as we are standing for most of the day.

We provide all tools & materials for framing on the day.

Continuing Studies

Following on from this course we offer 5 next level courses to help you to build up your framing repertoire:
