Course description

Equity Market Investing - Introduction

This course will provide delegates with a greater understanding of how global financial markets function. Broadly, the course is split into two areas: how global financial markets are structured and secondly understanding equity markets and related products. The course is taught by an experienced fund manager. There will be an overview of the public equities arena and different styles of analysis. It considers the perspectives of both the buy side (fund managers, asset managers, pension funds, insurance companies and other types of investing institutions) and the sell side (stockbrokers, equity analysts, investment banks etc.).

In summary, attendees will gain:

  • an introduction to / refresher on the public equity markets
  • an understanding of the buying and selling of public equities – how they are traded
  • an understanding of the tenets of equities analysis – how do research analysts get an edge… information, analysis or psychology?
  • an introduction to the different types of buy side institutions - their research, process and philosophies and a review of sell side research analysis produced by stockbrokers and investment banks

Further knowledge of the topic can be gained by attending Equity Markets & Equity Investing - Advanced the day after this course.
