Formulating Business Strategy
Range of strategies to consider – organisation, division, department, brand, competitive, development, marketing, sales, internal (structure, values, people, technology etc), financial.
Overarching simplified strategy model/process:
- Where are we? – realistic and effective assessment of our current situation
- Where do we want to get to? – desired destination / mission / vision / articulation of intention
- Route from here to there – development of strategies
- Monitoring, adaptation and discarding of on-going strategies
- Emergent strategies
Start with the end in mind – evaluating and articulating our ‘desired destination’. How this desired destination drives everything in the business. Developing relevant business goals.
Evaluation of the ‘internal’ side – 2 models – the ‘building blocks of business’ and ‘the organisational culture model’ – getting the ‘inside’ in order – people, finance, technology, marketing – the aspects within our control.
Measuring marketing strategy effectiveness.
Evaluation of the ‘external side’ – 2 models – ‘Competitive mapping’ and ‘RADAR’.
Strategies to increase brand value and brand strength.
How to do SWOT properly – so that it adds value and drives strategic decision making.
Approaches to threats – proactive and reactive.
