Course description

Overview

This 2 day programme is aimed at individuals who currently aspire to be more effective team leaders or managers. It’s ideal for anyone who wants to learn or improve their skills in this area with confidence, credibility and an awareness of their management style, no matter their level of experience.

Management and leadership is not a skill that is natural for most people; it has to be learned, and not in the same way that technical skills are learned. There is no simple formula for being successful as a manager. Managing other people involves insight, empathy and a measure of boldness. Managers need to make judgements about complex matters and strike the right balance between tasks, business goals and care for people.

This programme is an excellent opportunity for you to build on your current management and leadership skills and to learn some new skills in a safe and supportive environment. At the end of each module you will have the opportunity to complete your personal action plan encouraging you to stretch your learning to the next level.

Who is this for?

New tools and techniques to help you manage your team more effectively and take your career to the next level.

Programme outline

Day 1 – Getting the best out of your Team

“Coaching is key to the development of a learning culture” Eric Parsloe

Knowing how to get the best out of your team is the key to a high performing team. One of the most effective ways to do this is by coaching/mentoring and giving constructive feedback. This not only helps you as the manager to get the best results possible but also helps the individual members of staff reach their full potential.

This session will help you:

  • Understand the differences between coaching and mentoring and how each works and when it is appropriate to use
  • Create a culture of learning through coaching, mentoring and giving feedback
  • Use reliable coaching and feedback tools and models
  • Explore the essential management skills required to be a good coach
  • Encourage a commitment to action and the development of personal growth and change
  • Help yourself and your team to achieve a better work/life balance

Day 2 – Team Development and Motivation

Together Everyone Achieves More”

If you only do one thing for your team – help them to understand the purpose of their work, their role within the team and their possible future roles within the organisation.

If a team leader can understand what encourages an individual to expend more or less effort on a particular activity, they can improve motivation at work and so improves levels of productivity.

This session will help you:

  • Understand team stages and team dynamics and how to build your team
  • Model the behaviours of a ‘Best Boss’
  • Explore proven tools and models for effective teams
  • Explore what motivates people at work
  • Understand the dynamics of leading your team through change
  • Build resilience for yourself and your team members
