Course description

The ERS Guild of Gas Fitters Certification Course for New Entrants to the Gas Industry (GGFO Category 3):

This course programme is designed for new entrants to the gas industry who do not hold a relevant related qualification and have no gas related workplace experience.

The ERS Guild of Gas Fitters Certification Course (GGFO CATEGORY 3) has been especially designed for people who seek to embark upon a career within the gas industry. The aims and objectives are to train prospective new entrants to the national standard of domestic natural gas safety. The flexible and tailored twenty week course (excluding assessment days) aims to provide the individual with the skills and knowledge required to meet the standards of competence directly relating to the ACS domestic natural gas safety curriculum. The course is open-ended to address the differing circumstances and needs of each and every individual. This aspect allows individual students to schedule their course over a period of twelve months or more if required. Upon enrolment students will investigate, discover and learn about the essential aspects associated with the safe delivery, control and use of natural gas in the domestic environment. Students will acquire, develop and apply all the competencies required to safely install and maintain natural gas appliances that include boilers, fires, cookers, water heaters and warm air heaters. To this end students will study all the gas safety issues surrounding the installation and testing of gas pipe work, combustion, gas controls, the provision of ventilation and the installation, inspection and testing of flues.

The course consists of both theoretical and practical instruction in basic gas safety training. Once you have successfully completed the course, you will be awarded 'The Guild of Gas Fitters Certificate' from the awarding body E.R.S.

The Guild of Gas Fitters Certificate certifies that the holder has successfully completed and demonstrated their competence on a basic domestic natural gas safety course only. It does not certify that the holder is qualified or experienced in gas work, plumbing or any other discipline.
