Course description

UAL Level 3 Diploma/Extended Diploma in Creative Media Production/Games Development:

There are two pathways on the Level 3 course.

Media Production is a broad, exciting and practical course with a strong design core, which includes digital media technology.
Games Development programme has a strong design core. The programme has been developed in conjunction with a leading games development company.

The level 3 course is nationally recognised by employers and universities. The Extended Diploma (2 years) is equivalent to three full A Levels.

Students on this course will be invited to attend cross-college events that will develop their job skills. Examples of previous events students have attended are:

Course Content and Job Skills

Interactive Media gives students a sound practical and design experience which includes:

Photoshop and image manipulation
TV and video production
Page layout and design
Digital photography
2D and web animation
Website design
Motion graphics
Designing TV
Advertising
Digital graphics

This provides students with a portfolio of valuable skills and work, relevant to employment within the fast changing new media industries.

Games Development covers all the major elements in the extremely complex process that is the development of an IT-based game. These are:

Games platforms and technologies
Digital graphics
3D design, including modelling and environments
Audio and video for games
The narrative structure of games
Working in the games industry and professional practice
Concept art

Students work on a professional brief, and will also create a final project.

Suitability

The course is aimed at those who are looking to develop the many and complex skills required for a career in media and games industry.

Assessments

This course is continuously assessed. For coursework, students must produce written reports, evaluating their performance and show evidence of planning, research and organisation.

Progression

Research shows that 60% of new jobs in the media industry are in a games-related field, and that most of these jobs are concentrated in London and the South East. Alternatively students can progress to a University programme.
