Course description

Developing Enterprise:

This is one year programme for learners who are aged 19 and above with moderate learning disabilities/difficulties. The programme will be taught at our new Hive Centre which is on our Winchester Campus in Compton, just south of Winchester. Learners will be working at Entry 3 or Level 1 according to their ability and prior experience. The programme is designed to give a flavour of working on an enterprise activity while maintaining the development of English, Maths & IT and personal and social skills. The programme will run over 4 days and cover the following topics: Horticulture, Catering, Craft Skills, Business and Enterprise skills. Embedded within this programme will be team working, confidence building, managing money in relation to a small business budget, marketing and advertising. We will be undertaking a range of activities linked to seasonal times of the year to support the development of enterprise projects. Learners will be encouraged to develop their practical skills alongside developing appropriate business and promotional skills. On completion of the course students may wish to progress to another course at the college. For students who wish to continue on to access the world of work, Skills for Supported Employment or a Supported Internship are possible next steps. Alternatively, students who may wish to follow a less employment focused route, may want to access the Adult Enrichment Programme.
