This two year programme offers progression from the Certificate through to the Extended Diploma, dependent on your grades and achievement in year one.
You will study mandatory units covering key subjects such as:
-Equality, diversity and rights
-Human growth and development
-Safeguarding and protection
-Communication in health and social care
-Infection prevention and control
-Psychological and sociological perspectives
-Anatomy and physiology.
You will also undertake work placements in real work environments to support your learning, observe professional practice in action and gain valuable employability skills.
You will be taught by a team of experienced lecturers using a variety of teaching methods; you will learn through a mixture of practical and theoretical work, both in and outside of college.
Assessment is through a combination of written assignments and external assessments. Learners are timetabled to attend college over three days and are expected to spend the rest of the week at placement and/or completing self-directed study outside of class.
This qualification provides learners with the knowledge, understanding and skills essential to the health and social care sector and supports progression into Higher Education or the work place. Successful learners can access a wide range of job opportunities, supporting different service user groups in a variety of settings. These include people with physical disabilities, older people, individuals with learning disabilities, mental health issues and children and families. Settings include hospitals, care homes, community and supported living/group homes.
