Managing UpwardsWe normally know how to manage our own teams, or colleagues, but being able to successfully “manage” our Boss, or more senior colleagues can present a challenge for many, and is a really useful skill for anyone in business to perfect. There are so many times we have to manage upwards: we might need more staff, or an increase in the budget a change to an existing working practice, perhaps different working conditions. Additionally, it can sometimes be a struggle for some to have a healthy relationship with the boss, or others more senior, and this can cause friction as well as negatively impact motivation and ability to perform at our peak.
