BTEC Level 3 90 credit Diploma/Extended Diploma in Public Services:

This course is for anyone wishing to gain employment in the Uniformed Public Services, e.g. Police, Fire, Ambulance, Prison Service, Private Security Services, Armed Forces, Revenue and Customs.

Course Content

Year 1 course = 90 credit Diploma.

Year 2 course = a further 90 credits providing in total a 180 credit Extended Diploma.

You will study 12 units over the year. All units are subject to change.

The course contains units including both theoretical and practical subjects. All units are subject to change.

Mandatory Units:

Government policies in the Public Services
Leadership and teamwork in the Public Services
Citizenship in diversity in the Public Services
Understanding discipline, crime and its effect on society
Fitness testing and training for the Uniformed Public Services

Optional Units:

Physical preparation, health and lifestyle for the Public Services
Outdoor and adventurous expeditions
Skills for land-based outdoor and adventurous activities
Skills for water based outdoor and adventurous activities
Command and control in the Uniformed Public Services
Planning and management of major incidents
Crime and its effects on society
Behaviour in Public Sector employment
Aspects of the legal system and law-making process
Practical team sports
Exercise, health and lifestyle
Instructing physical activity and exercise
Land navigation by map and compass
Employment in the Uniformed Public Services

Functional Skills are developed, assessed and recorded throughout the programme.Outdoor activities will form an important part of the programme.

Study Methods

Lectures, workshops, group work, practical sessions and a range of outdoor activities.

How is the course assessed

Assignments include reports, projects, presentations, practical work, oral work and time constrained assignments.
