Who is the course for

This qualification is designed for learners starting out in the Hair and Beauty sector who want a basic understanding of the industry and who want to prepare for further learning or training. The Level 1 Diploma covers a broad range of skills including those relating to roles across Hairdressing, Beauty Therapy, Nails and Media Make-up. This qualification is ideal for learners who want to experience a range of different introductory skills across the sector.

Course Content

This qualification provides an introduction to a broad range of areas within the Hair and Beauty sector. It will allow learners to cover skills and knowledge required for preparing to progress to further learning needed to work in the hair or beauty industry. Units covered are:

• An introduction to the hair and beauty sector

• presenting a professional image in a salon. Learners have a choice of eight of the following

• Hand care

• Nail art

• Shampooing

• Create a hair and beauty image

• Health and safety

• The art of dressing hair

• The art of photographic make up

• Plaiting and twisting hair

For these qualifications you'll complete practical demonstrations and assignments.

How is the course assessed

You learn at College through practical sessions, group discussions or assignments. You'll have access to a realistic hairdressing environment where you'll practise and demonstrate your skills. You will be assessed by tutors and assessors, using assignments, practical hairdressing tasks and online tests.

The learner could progress onto an apprenticeship at Level 2 in either hairdressing or beauty therapy or other qualifications such as such as: Level 2 Diploma In Women’s Hairdressing
