This course is for anyone who has an interest in the subject and wishes to gain confidence, inspiration and help with creating a scheme and re-decorating their home.
This course enables students to understand the basic principles of interior design and will focus on colour, lighting, window treatments, flooring, kitchens, bathrooms, living space and bedrooms. The course will involve the creation of schemes with the aid of mood boards, scaled floor plans, 3D models and perspective drawings. We will consider historical style and how this relates to contemporary ideas. Practical work will include surface preparation and the use of techniques to create modern, original, paint/material decoration eg. Texture metallic finish, irridesant finish, crackelure, the creation of the modern stencil and broken paint finishes. We will touch on links to furnishings, soft furnishings and other related skill sets with some practical examples. As part of your course and where the opportunity occurs literacy/numeracy together with speaking and listening skills will be developed.
