Course description
This course is suitable for anyone who wants to improve their confidence, self esteem and delivery when speaking - whether it be asking a question at a meeting or in a classroom to structuring and giving presentations to an audience.
COURSE CONTENT
Students will be introduced to the importance of developing such skills as (based on individual student needs): - effective communication - listening skills - body posture and breathing - body language - voice control and development - management of anticipatory anxiety - speech presentation and delivery - interview techniques and presentation skills, debating, discussion, asking questions at meetings, social 'small talk' - audience management - By the end of the course, students will be able to confidently structure and give short speeches and presentations, using visual aids - progress will be monitored by video and tape recordings. As part of your course and where the opportunity occurs literacy/numeracy together with speaking and listening skills will be developed.
STUDY METHODS
Student-centred approach. Discussion with questions and answers. Demonstrations. Practical application and simulation. Use of video and audio recorder.
HOW IS THE COURSE ASSESSED
No formal assessment. Progress will be monitored by video and tape recordings.

A more confident approach to speaking to others (publically, individually or to small groups).
