Course description

APPRENTICESHIP STANDARDS ELECTROTECHNICAL LEVEL 3: Electricians install, maintain and repair electrical systems in industrial, commercial and domestic environments. Electricians might work in both indoor and outdoor settings. Electrical equipment and systems may include switchboards, motors, cables, fuses, thermal relays, fault current protection switches, heating, lighting, air conditioning and metering equipment as well as crime and fire alarm systems and renewable energy technologies. You will be able to work on your own proficiently and work without immediate supervision in the most efficient and economical manner. You may also contribute to the design of electrical systems. Electricians are able to set out jobs from drawings and specifications and requisition the necessary installation materials. Electrical safety is an important area of Electricians’ work. On completion of your work the electrical systems must be safe to use. You must adhere to safe working practices without endangering themselves or others. Installation Electricians work on the installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of low voltage (less than 1000v) electrical and electronic devices and appliances. This apprenticeship will last a minimum of 42 months and typically you would complete in 48 months. You will be required to attend college 1 day a is is a Level 3 Apprenticeship.

Suitability - Who should attend?

A minimum of 5 GCSE’s Grade A*C including:•GCSE Maths Grade C/ 4 or Functional Skill in Maths Level 2•GCSE English Language Grade C/ 4 or Functional Skill in English Level 2Working in a job role such as Installation Electrician working a minimum of 30 hours per week.
