Course description
his course is designed for students who have very limited or no previous knowledge of British Sign Language (BSL).The course is based on a communicative approach and aims to enable students to understand and use BSL effectively for purposes of practical communication with deaf people, to develop understanding of sentence syntax and to offer insights into Deaf Culture.
By the end of the course you will have been given the opportunity to:
· Learn to fingerspell and lip-read
·Meet and greet people
· Learn numbers
· Describe colours
· Introduce yourself (name, age, where you live)
· Describe your family
· Talk about the weather, months of the year and the seasons
· Give directions
· Discuss transport
· Describe animals and pets
· Practise shopping for food and clothes
You will also have learnt some basic BSL syntax, in particular:
· Verbs
· Negative and positive face expressions
· Use of questions
· Prepositions
