Course description

The fully online Intermediate Certificate in Human Resource Management course is the ideal qualification to further your HR skills and advance your career. It's perfect if you're seeking to build a career in HR management, or if you're already working in HR management and want to expand your knowledge and formalise your expertise.

The CIPD Level 5 Certificate is set at undergraduate level and accredited by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), the largest professional HR organisation in Europe. 

It's 100% online and will examine the role of an HR manager and a human resources department, looking at the different aspects of the role and how the functions are managed and coordinated.

Using specially designed online study materials and with the support of your tutors, mentors and student support team, you'll develop your ability to evaluate the effectiveness of different HR models and practices, and increase your understanding of the external factors that impact HR activities and organisations. 

You'll be able to specialise in two areas of human resource management. These could be resource and talent planning, reward management, employment law or contemporary developments in employment relations. 

Whilst building your professional expertise, you'll also be developing your planning, analytical and problem-solving skills.

Suitability - Who should attend?

This 100% online programme is set at Level 5 and is therefore equivalent to the 2nd year of a degree programme. The Level 5 Intermediate Certificate in Human Resource Management is ideal if you:

  • Seek to further develop your professional HR knowledge after studying a CIPD Level 3 Foundation qualification

Training Course Content

Structure of the Course

To achieve the CIPD Intermediate Certificate in Human Resource Management, you need a total of 32 credits, which you'll gain by completing all of the core modules and two out of a possible four optional modules.

You'll complete the programme in two parts. In the first, you'll study all four core modules:

  • Developing Professional Practice (4 credits)
  • Using Information in HR (4 credits)
  • Business Issues and the Contexts of HR (6 credits)
  • Managing and Coordinating the HR Function (6 credits)

For the second part, you'll complete any two out of the four optional modules:

Optional Modules

  • Resourcing and Talent Planning (6 credits)
  • Reward Management (6 credits)
  • Employment Law (6 credits)
  • Contemporary Developments in Employment Relations (6 credits)


You can either pay for your course in full or opt for an interest-free payment plan. You'll pay a small deposit and the rest by monthly direct debit. Our plans are flexible, so you can extend the terms or pay your balance off sooner if you choose.

Please note that CIPD's annual Student membership fees are additional to your course fee.
