Course description

BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Health and Social Care (health Sciences and social work pathways):

This course has 11 core units. This includes some science based units which reflect the knowledge needed to work in the Medical and Nursing field. Topics covered range from communication, equality and diversty, Health, Safety and Security, Anatomy and Physiology, Biochemistry and Science as well as Sociology and Psychology. There are 7 optional units selected to suit for local needs , covering a range of skills from counselling, research and social policy. Work experience in a nursery, residiental care home or day centre is an important part of the course (1 or 2 a week with a minimum of 100 hours to be completed in year 1. These hours are a mandatory part of the course)

Suitability - Who should attend?

Students must have a minimum of 4 GCSEs at grades 4 or above including English and maths GCSE (or equivalent), or a Merit at BTEC Level 2 Diploma. . As you will be entering a profession where you will be working with children and vunerable adults you are required to demonstrate your suitability as by undertaking an enhanced DBS check and through an interview process
