Access to Higher Education Diploma - Teacher Training

This course is designed to give adult students, who may have left school early or have been out of education for a number of years, the opportunity to develop academic skills, confidence and knowledge before applying to university. This course requires a minimum of 90% attendance and the successful completion of 45 Level 3 credits and 15 Level 2 or 3 credits. The Access Diploma is awarded at a Pass, Merit or Distinction. The programme is made up of a mixture of specialist subjects and a core support programme. All students will study Education Studies and will then choose one further specialist subject from English and History and one from Sociology and Psychology. The choice of subjects will depend on the age range of pupils you intend to teach and, in certain circumstances you will be permitted to study all Humanities or all Social Science subjects. The remainder of the programme will comprise of Study Skills which are designed to provide all students with essential skills underpinning learning on the course and in undergraduate study for example note-taking, research and presentation skills. Students on this diploma have gone on to study Teacher Training, English, History and Psychology at a range of universities, including the Russell Group of universities.
