BTEC Level 1 Introduction to Business and IT

This course will provide you with a good and practical introduction into Business and IT. During the course you will work individually and in small groups developing the skills you need to work in Business and IT.

During the course students are supported in developing their English and Mathematics skills and the course provides the opportunity to either re-sit both GCSE Mathematics and English or study these as Functional skills. The course is made up of ten units, four core units (Being Organised, Developing a Personal Progression Plan, Working with Others and Researching a Topic), and six optional units. The course is currently 100% coursework and you will be assessed in a variety of ways – presentations, role plays and time-limited exercises.

Throughout the course you will learn a variety of topics based on the Business and IT sectors. You will have the opportunity to visit real businesses such as local tourist attractions. You will meet with your personal tutor for group meetings and for one to one meetings on a regular basis.

The course provides progression routes into work, apprenticeship or further study at level 2. The course will help develop your employability skills including team work, communication and numeracy skills and provide an insight into a variety of topics such as Exploring a Local Tourist Attraction and Creating a Spreadsheet to Solve Problems. Progression onto level 2 is subject to a satisfactory reference, achieving your target grades and having average attendance of 95% or higher.
