Course description
The subsidiary course is the equivalent of one A Level. You will develop practical skills and a theoretical understanding of the world of business. You will look in depth at finance, human resources and marketing. A stepping stone course to the BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business for those with four GCSEs at the grades indicated above or a top-up course for extra UCAS points and knowledge prior to university. GCSE English or Mathematics if a grade C/4 has not been attained.
During the course you will develop your group work, IT and presentation skills. The units you will study include elements of accounting, marketing, human resource management and website design. You will have a personal tutor who supports and guides you through the course. You will meet with your personal tutor for group meetings and for personal one to one meetings on a regular basis.
The course is currently 100% coursework and you will be assessed in a variety of ways - presentations, role plays and time-limited exercises. On completion you progress to BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Business (a one year course providing an additional A Level equivalent on top of the Subsidiary Diploma), HND Business and BA (Hons) Business.

Suitability - Who should attend?
Four GCSEs at grades A*-C/9-4 including English Language or Mathematics or have completed and passed a BTEC Level 2 (Extended) Certificate in Business at Merit plus grade A*-C/9-4 in either GCSE English Language or Mathematics. as well as a satisfactory reference from last school or college.
