Course description

Level 2 Certificate in Barbering (16-18 Years):

This course aims to provide learners with a range of essential and practical skills and knowledge to equip them for employment or further training in the barbering industry. These skills will include services such as shampooing, conditioning, cutting men's hair, drying and finishing men's hair and creating basic outlines in the hair.

This qualification covers all the core skills you will need to progress to further learning and training or to enter into employment in the barbering industry. Learners will study the following mandatory content:

  • Working in hair industry
  • Follow Health & Safety practices in the salon
  • Client consulatation for hair services
  • Shampoo and condition the hair and scalp
  • Cut men's hair
  • Cut facial hair
  • Styling men's hair
  • Promote products and services to clients in a salon

Achievement of this qualification demonstrates to an employer that you have the essential skills and knowledge of health and safety, customer service and also the necessary technical skills to be employed as a barber, either in a barber shop, a hairdressing salon or hotel. You can also progress onto Level 3 Certificate in Barbering. Learners may also continue training on a Level 2 Hairdressing Apprenticeship providing they have a clear disciplinary record and a minimum 90% attendance.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Students must be 16-18 at the start of the course and have either three GCSEs (minimum grades C-D) to include English or Maths at grade C, or have successfully completed the Level 1 Diploma Hair & Beauty course at mostly merit/distinction level. Good IT skills are essential, as is access to a computer and internet away from College. A satisfactory school reference and behaviour record, successful interview and diagnostic screening are required prior to a placement being made.
