Course description

Level 2 Diploma for IT:

Information and Communication Technology is the ever-developing computer-based technology that is opening up communications and the exchange of information on a global scale. ICT has found its way into all aspects of life, from entertainment to most areas of work. This qualification will prepare you for a wide range of further courses or employment in junior positions.

During this course you will build up a portfolio of coursework. You will learn how to present and handle information, to understand the functions and forms of software and hardware and to plan and develop ICT-based solutions. Units studied include: Programming; Computer Systems; Website Development; Database Systems; Spreadsheet Modelling; Computing Graphics.

The Level 2 Diploma in IT is equivalent to four GCSEs at grades A*-C/9-4. It will enable you to grogress to an Advanced Level course, either to a computer-based course (for example the Level 3 Diploma in IT) or to courses such as Communications, Media, Engineering and Business if you achieve a Merit grade. Alternatively, you may prefer to use your qualification to go straight into employment or an apprenticeship. The skills you will have developed will open up a wide range of opportunities at a junior level. Students have, in the past, gone into areas of work such as technical support, administration, software development and hardware/software sales.
