Course description

Media Studies A Level:

Media Studies A Level is a modern qualification which develops both your analytical and production skills. Half the course is assessed via coureswork, which consists of a range of options such as music videos or print based media. Students use a range of new technologies to complete their production coursework including Adobe Premiere Pro and Photoshop. There is also an exam-based unit which looks at a range of media – from television, film, newspapers and the Internet.

Three units are included, two of which are exam based and one of which is coursework based.

Component 1 consists of Media Products, Industries and Audiences and is partially assessed based on unseen stimulus material. Component 2 consists of the in-depth study of set Television, Online and Magazine Products. Component 3 is the coursework unit and will require students to complete two cross-media production pieces.

Components 1 and 2 are worth 35% of the total marks and Component 3 is worth 30% of the final grade. A Level Media combines well with other creative and writing-based subjects and enables you to progress into both university education and employment. The exam board is WJEC.
