Course description

VTCT Level 2 Diploma in Hair and Media Make-Up:

This course is designed to prepare you for a career in the competitive world of fashion, media make-up and hairstyling. Having mastered the advanced level skills this course will teach you, you could pursue a career that involves supervising others and managing resources. This qualification is not suitable for candidates under the age of 16. Work experience is an essential element of this course and you will be encouraged to take part in a variety of educational visits throughout the year.

Areas studied on the course include:

  • Client Consultation for hair services
  • Following Health and Safety practices in the salon
  • Client care and communication in the Beauty related industries
  • Apply make-up
  • Provide eyelash and eybrow treatments
  • Create an image based on a theme within the Hair and Beauty sector
  • The art of photographic make-up
  • Body art design
  • Plaiting and twisting hair
  • The art of dressing hair
  • Make and style hair additions
  • Themed face painting
  • Shampoo and condition hair
  • Nail Art

On completion on the Level 2 Diploma, learners can progress onto the VTCT Level 3 Diploma or Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Production Arts (Make-Up) courses. Alternatively, you could pursue specialist qualifications in either hairdressing or beauty therapy.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Three GCSE's at grade 4 (C) or above to include Maths or English. Satisfactory school reference and successful interview. Candidates should also have a good level of computer skills, access to the internet from home and a genuine interest in the hair and beauty industry. Diagnostic screening may be required prior to a placement offer. The college offer a variety of Hairdressing and Beauty study options and will direct applicants to the most appropriate course dependant on GCSE grades predicted or achieved.
