Course description
BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design Level 3
The Foundation Diploma in Art and Design will help you recognise your strengths and abilities. All our students who apply to universities are successful, with a high ratio gaining their first choice on higher education degree courses, so we have a proven success rate we are proud of.
You will do a wide range of practical, studio based activities that will introduce you to the underpinning knowledge and issues of serious study in art and design. You will produce 3D and 2D work and greatly improve your understanding of media and techniques. Initially, you will explore the following areas:
- Traditional drawing and painting techniques including perspective, life drawing and colour theory
- 3D activities including wood, small metal work, plaster, ceramics
- Graphics – illustration, animation and photography
- A variety of print making techniques and textiles
As you progress you will specialise and develop your own focus of activity. This will indicate an appropriate area of study for you when applying for your degree course. Teaching staff will also support you through the UCAS application process for higher education degree level study.
