This course is for those who enjoy designing and developing IT solutions and are interested in specialising in web design, games, programming or advanced ICT applications. The course is designed for those wishing to make a career in roles such as web designer, programmer, help desk support, games developer, data analyst, network administrator, and database administrator.
You will study 7 mandatory units: Information technology systems, Creating systems to manage information, Using social media in business, Programming, IT project management, Cyber security and incident management and IT Service delivery.
Students will learn using different techniques, including: lectures, demonstrations, self-directed study, practical work, tutorials, online activities. Students will be involved in work-related simulations to help you gain experience through realistic working environments. Students will have the opportunity to work on projects provided by employers.
The course will involve continuous assessment using methods such as: Student videos, Use of screen recording software, Recorded discussion, Website, published using ftp to a secure server, Documents showing original designs, site map etc. PowerPoint or Prezi presentation, Poster and logos, A blog, Completed spreadsheet with macros, VB etc.Multi-page pamphlet using Publisher and Staff observations.
On completion students can progress on to a foundation degree, or a degree.Students could go on to a career working as a games designer, a web designer or a developer.
Suitability - Who should attend?
Students need to have a minimum of 5 GCSEs with the following grades: Maths and English at 4 or above, and 3 other GCSE’s grade C or above OR a minimum of five GCSEs grade A*-C including English language, and maths at grade D or above, or a level 2 qualification at overall merit grade, English and IT at level 2, and maths at level 1.
