Photography Studies – Online
The Photography Studies course will lead you through some of the main photographic genres from early examples to new ideas that are developing today. Each week the class will explore groundbreaking work from some of the most notable photographers of street, portraiture, landscape, documentary and still-life. Are you interested in discussing great photography and interpreting photographs as a way to deepen your photographic practice as well as open up potential new directions? If so this Photography Studies course could be the perfect complement to your camera work.
Classes will involve some self study and information being sent to you via email. The course will be run via Zoom, please make sure you have installed in in advance of your first class.
Suitability - Who should attend?
This course is for all photographers who are interested in learning more about how photography developed through its different genres and the photographers who shaped these changes. You will learn by studying, discussing and interpreting photographs and the photographers that have been influential in shaping the medium. In considering how great photography relates to your own practice it opens the possibilities for inspiring new interests and directions.
Training Course Content
Each week will focus on a different genre from street, portraiture, landscape, still-life and documentary. The course will explore and discuss the groundbreaking work of some of the most notable photographers that have shaped these genres. As well as past practice the course will also look at examples of these genres from today's photographers and discuss how digital technology is changing photography. You will finish the course with an opportunity to review how these Photography Studies have inspired connections to develop your own practice.
Course delivery details
The course will use multi-media including images, videos and presentations as ways of learning. These will be a carefully chosen set of resources that you will be able to continue to make use of during the course. at all stages of the course, participation through discussion will be encouraged. Short assignments will enable you to research further into specific areas of interest.
