In this course, you will study midwifery, nursing, physiology, study skills, social psychology, sociology, English, Maths, and IT. Many approaches to learning are used including individual and small/large group work. Academic and tutorial support is given throughout the course. Health and social care courses like this open up a huge range of career options to you. If you are an international student, that many UK universities will not accept you for a midwifery degree if you are here on a visa. Midwifery/nursing related units: Sociology; Social Psychology; Biology/Physiology; Maths; English; IT; Study Skills.

Assessments take place throughout the course with essays, assignments, presentations, tests and exams. To gain the Access Diploma you will need to achieve 60 credits with a minimum of 45 at Level 3. After completion of this course, you will move onto: Midwifery Degree; Nursing Degree; Early Childhood Studies.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Most universities ask for GCSE English and Maths grade A*-C/9-4. If you are missing one of these GCSEs at the required grade: You will need to sit an assessment and depending on your results, you could study a GCSE course or a Level 2 Functional Skills course alongside Access. This option is intensive so you will need to be committed to studying the extra hours. If you are missing both GCSE English and Maths A*-C/9-4 or your assessment results show you're unlikely to get above grade D/3: You will need to take an English and/or Maths Functional Skills or GCSE course before studying Access to develop your skills in this area.In some cases we may consider equivalent international qualifications. If you don't have GCSEs A*-C/9-4, don't forget we have other options that might suit you. If you're employed our apprenticeships team can help you get qualified while you work, and we have plenty of courses to prepare you for further study or work.
