This course is ideal if you want to develop skills and knowledge of software and hardware and gain a greater understanding of the IT industry. It will advance your problem-solving skills and give you an introduction to this rapidly expanding industry. Focusing on using software, you'll cover all aspects of computer systems and carry out basic installation and configuration. You'll learn how to design and create databases, edit computer-generated images and develop websites, video and other assets. The units will develop your team work skills applied to computing and IT. We also have an arrangement with Microsoft DreamSpark so you'll be able to download MS programming and operating systems software for free.
All units are assessed by coursework, using assignments featuring realistic work-based projects that will challenge and boost your understanding of IT. You will also be assessed via exams. After successful completion of this course, you can progress on to our Level 3 IT course to deepen your understanding and improve your job prospects.
Suitability - Who should attend?
Students need to have: three GCSEs A*-D/9-3 including English or Maths; OR a relevant Level 1 qualification plus English and Maths assessed by us to be at an appropriate level. If you don't meet all the entry requirements for this course, you can still apply. You may need to take a preparatory Level 1 course with us first to pick up all the skills you need for further study.
