In this course, you will study psychology, social policy, sociology, study skills, Maths, English and IT. In addition to this, tutorial sessions will help you with your university applications through the UCAS system. You will study real cases and will explore the role of social workers with children and families as well as vulnerable adults and the elderly. Assessments take place throughout the course with essays, assignments, presentations, tests and exams. To gain the Access Diploma you will need to achieve 60 credits with a minimum of 45 at Level 3. Choose your university course and remember that South Thames runs university-level courses too so there could be something here that fits your career plans.

Suitability - Who should attend?

Students should be 19 or over at the start of this course. This course will prepare you for study at university-level, but you should check the entry requirements for the universities you are interested in as well. You should be 19 or over at the start of this course. Most universities ask for GCSE English and Maths grade A*-C/9-4. If you are missing one of these GCSEs at the required grade: you will need to sit an assessment and depending on your results, you could study a GCSE course or a Level 2 Functional Skills course alongside Access. This option is intensive so you'll need to be committed to studying the extra hours. If you are missing both GCSE English and Maths A*-C/9-4 or your assessment results show you're unlikely to get above grade D/3: You will need to take an English and/or Maths Functional Skills or GCSE course before studying Access to develop your skills in this area. In some cases we may consider equivalent international qualifications. If you don't have GCSEs A*-C/9-4, don't forget we have other options that might suit you. If you're employed our apprenticeships team can help you get qualified while you work, and we have plenty of courses to prepare you for further study or work.
