Art We Own: Treasures in London's Public Collections

Discover how art and society developed in the past 500 years through paintings that we all own in London's national collections. Five on-site sessions in three different, admission-free galleries, three hours, every month on the third Sunday.

We often forget that the treasures preserved in London's national art collections belong to all of us, the public. Thousands of art objects explain how we have shaped our cultures, values and identities over the centuries, as well as they document the best achievements that artist made in the pursue of beauty and aesthetic pleasure. We will spend five Sundays in the (re-)discovery of three of the most renowned art galleries in London and study in detail fascinating artists and paintings that are hanging on their walls. We will have the opportunity to investigate how art works were created and changed over the centuries; we will understand what they represent, what lessons they teach, which stories they tell about the past and the present.

What will you learn

On-site lectures, including talks by Dr Corsaro and group discussions, as well as simple practical tasks that permit direct engagement with the art objects. Every visits will follow the same structure. Dr Corsaro will meet the group in the galleries and make himself visible in the foyer (check meeting points below).

In order to ensure that you make the best possible progress on your course, you will have regular feedback from your tutor, in a constructive and supportive environment
