What you will learn
Professor Lubaina Himid has participated at an international level in exhibitions conferences books and films on the visual art of the Black Diaspora since the early 1980’s. Learn more about the Turner Prize winning artist’s journey from the 1980s to the present. Lubaina Himid describes herself as a cultural activist; explore Himid’s prolific body of work and significant contribution to British Art.
By the end of the course you will be able to
- Understand how this artist has progressed, though her own work and her engagement with her contemporaries
- Have an overview of some of the artists groups and affiliations established in the UK in during 1980s
- Recognise Himid’s distinct visual language
- Understand Himid’s references to Britain’s Colonial past and East Africa in particular.

This course is taught at Intermediate level. The working language for this course is English, so every student should have a good command of the English language.
