FdSc Equine Performance and Therapies

This course provides underpinning knowledge of the principles of equine therapies within the context of the equine industry as a whole but specialising in the area of equine rehabilitation and therapy. This course can be studied full-time over two years or on a part-time basis over three to four years.

Applicants may also be offered a place on the basis of their experience and we would welcome applications from mature students or people currently working in industry who are seeking Continuing Professional Development or part time opportunities.

Training Course Content

In the first year you will study both theoretical and practical modules including anatomy and physiology, equine therapies, business and science. You will also complete a practical horsemanship module; undertake commercial experience using the college equine facilities and take part in massage workshops. You will also have the opportunity to ride.

In year two, you will study modules based around equine therapies including equine exercise physiology, biomechanics and equine sports injury and therapy as well as practical modules such as Practical Rehabilitation Skills, equipping the student with skills to use within the field of equine therapy and rehabilitation. The Foundation degree programme has a vocational approach and includes the opportunity for you to undertake two periods of work placement in an area of your choice, one of three weeks and one of five weeks.

Careers

Recent graduates from the equestrian courses have secured a wide range of posts including equine therapists (following further specialist studies), Project Coordinators at Equine Regulatory Bodies, Equine Nutritionists, Assistant Managers at Equestrian Centres and Equine Lecturers. Moulton College aims to provide students with guidance and support in all aspects of career planning and building a set of skills to increase employability. The College has very strong links with employers who provide career guidance for students and the opportunity for research with an equine business, examples of which include feed companies, training centres and veterinary practices, local equine media publications and equine therapists.
