Level 1 Award in Introduction to Health & Social Care (Children & Young People Settings)
The Level 1 Award in Introduction to Health, Social Care and Children’s and Young People’s Settings aims to develop learners’ knowledge and awareness of health, social care and children’s and young people’s settings. It is aimed at learners in school or college who wish to develop an understanding of the similarities and differences between these settings.

Suitability - Who should attend?
here are no formal entry requirements for this course, but you must be aged over 18 and either employed or have regular access to a youth work environment.If you are taking the Level 1 Award there is no need for a youth work placement.
We recommend that you have a good command of literacy and numeracy before enrolling on these courses. We can provide support for this through our programme of online and classroom study for English, Maths and ICT.
All new entrants to the sector must be willing to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check; you can not start studying until you have proof of this.
Outcome / Qualification etc.
This qualification is aimed at:
- Learners who wish to develop an understanding of these settings before deciding whether working in the sector is for them
- Learners who wantto gain the knowledge, understanding and skills required for employment and/or career progression in the sectors
- Helping learners to tailor their learning to their interests through the provision of a broad range of optional units
- Providingopportunities for the development of transferable skills
- Supportingprogression to Level 2 qualifications in health, social care or children’s settings
- Providinglearners with the opportunity to progress to employment, in due course, in a range ofjob roles in the care sectors.
Course delivery details
- Level 1 Award: 4-6 months involving 4 monthly teaching days (or 8 evening sessions), plus assessment time and independent study.
- Level 2 Certificate: 6-9 months involving 6 monthly teaching days (or 12 evening sessions), plus assessment time and independent study.
